Deer
CSO tries to use a Quality Deer Management philosophy. We don’t feel that just because a person may have a disability or a special need that they should have their harvest restrictions lowered. Our goal is to put each hunter in the best possible location to be able to harvest a quality Alabama buck.
We attempt to not harvest any bucks under 3 ½ years of age and all bucks must have at least six points. We are more concerned with the age of the deer than with his rack. We hunt land in Barbour County Alabama and state law REQUIRES there be at least three points on one side measuring up to one inch in length. This rule will ALWAYS be followed. We hunt land in Dale County Alabama as well where CSO restrictions will apply. Hunters will be allowed to take one doe a day and one buck every other day of their hunt.
When hunters arrive they will be instructed on how to determine age classes of both bucks and does. By doing this we hope to stop anyone from harvesting button bucks when they think they are taking a doe. Visual aids will be used in teaching these methods.
We use shooting houses and ground blinds for all of our deer hunts, all are set up on food sources, food plots or major travel corridors giving each hunter the opportunity to see the maximum amount of game. We have numerous food plots planted in Mossy Oak Bio-Logic. We have a year round food plot program to try and have the healthiest deer herd possible. We also hunt hardwood bottoms full of various kinds of oak trees and other types of browse. Much of our property is planted pine plantation which is excellent bedding for deer, this is where hunting the travel corridors are key. We believe being able to intercept the deer between their bedding and feeding areas makes for some exciting whitetail action.
Hunters will be taken to and from their stand locations by ATV or pickup truck. Their guide will either sit with them or drop them off depending on the individual need. Any hunter sitting alone will be given a two way radio so he/she can contact their guide if the need arises. We typically take hunters out just prior to daylight for their morning hunt and will pick up between 10:00 A.M. and 11:00 A.M. The afternoon hunt normally starts around 2:00 P.M. until nightfall. If a hunter has a special need, these times can be altered.
When an animal is taken it will be cleaned and quartered by your guide. Hunters will be responsible for bringing a cooler large enough to transport their game home. There are numerous hunters for the hungry programs in the area that will accept some animals, but all hunters will be responsible for what they take.
All state of Alabama game laws as well as CSO harvest restrictions will be followed at all times. Failure to do so will result in the termination of the remainder of the hunt. No refunds will be made to hunters who do not follow the rules and regulations.

Turkey

CSO prides itself in having some of the finest yelpers and owl hooters in the South working to help give you the exhilarating experience of an Alabama gobbler right in your lap. We do extensive scouting and monitoring of birds to try and know where they are and what they’re doing at any given time.
Your day of turkey hunting will start well before daylight trying to get close to known roosting areas and catch the toms as they fly down. This allows us an opportunity to call to them before they pair off with hens. We believe this is one of our most productive times of day because you can use darkness in your favor. We will get you as close as possible and let our calling do the rest. Hunters are welcome to call for themselves if they choose or we can handle it for you. We do not want to “over harvest” our birds so each hunter will be allowed to take one turkey every other day.
If you’re not successful at daybreak we will move you around, calling in different areas trying to get a lonesome tom to gobble. When he does, we will set up and call to try and bring him in close for a shot. For persons who are not as mobile, we have found just setting up in areas where the birds are known to frequent and calling sporadically can be an effective method as well. This is where our experienced guides can play a huge role in your success.
Turkey hunting can be tough, but we will do everything we can to outsmart an old tom and get him in close. We guarantee that it will be an experience that you will never forget. When you hear a tom gobble as he is coming in, it is sure to get your heart beating a little faster.
